All Hands on deck- SGS Unites!-March 2017
- Expanding our portfolio of services
- Growing our unified global footprint of wholly owned subsidiaries
- Adding stability to our business for organic and acquisition growth
- Strengthens our pool of qualified Diver / Technicians
- Expands our technical resources so that we can continue to innovate and create innovative underwater solutions
Subsea Global Solutions was put to the test DAYS into the announcement of this acquisition. A vessel operating on a time critical cruise itinerary developed a leak in its shaft seal. This emergency required Subsea Global Solutions to engage it’s global network to deploy personnel and equipment to a port location in the Far East. With the correct equipment assets strategically located in SGS’s Korea and Vancouver facilities, equipment was immediately dispatched to the required repair location. Since the repair was time critical, trained and certified Diver / Technicians were deployed from SGS’s Korea, Los Angeles, Miami, Seattle and Vancouver locations. Careful planning and timely execution was necessary for this time sensitive repair. The rope guard was surgically removed using a carbon arc gouging system. By utilizing this specialized technique the weld can be effectively removed without damaging the base metal; thus saving critical time in material preparation once the repair is completed. With full access to the seal, the extent of the damage could be evaluated. As seal lip ring renewals was required, the Diver / Technicians installed the Transhab, a flexible Hyperbaric cofferdam. With precision and care the damaged seal lip rings were removed and replaced using a factory approved bonding process and bonding agent. Once completed, Quality assurance pressure and measurement tests were performed to assure an OEM guaranteed repair was completed. The rope guard was then welded back to the stern tube by coded welder / divers utilizing the class approved Class “A” wet welding procedures of Subsea Global Solutions. With integrated equipment and all repair team members working to the same technical repair process, the repair was successfully completed utilizing the combined resources of Subsea Global Solutions LLC and its newly acquired subsidiary.
Subsea Global Solutions has pioneered the methodology to performing permanent repairs and replacements to shaft seals underwater in a wet or dry environment. By working closely with our OEM partners, Subsea Global Solutions sets the standard for shaft seal renewal while a vessel remains afloat and in service. With the largest wholly owned footprint of any company in underwater ship repair, we are THE ONE SOURCE FOR GLOBAL UNDERWATER SOLUTIONS.

Semisubmersible Rig Decomissioning- Feb 2017
Subsea Global Solutions is the clients trusted resource for global underwater services. Subsea Global Solutions owns their own strand jacks, has the trained and experienced personnel to prepare large azimuthing thrusters for underwater demounting and has successfully completed several large projects WITHOUT the huge expense of crane barges or secondary crane services. By integrating all of the services underwater one corporate service umbrella, Subsea Global Solutions is a fully integrated Global Diving Contractor able to manage the entire schedule, cost and performance of azimuthing thruster demounting; even when the work is performed hundreds of miles offshore in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico.
During the past several weeks, a team of Subsea Global Solutions diver / technicians were onboard a dynamic positioning semisubmersible drill rig preparing the vessel for long term decommissioning. This included the demounting and storing on deck the eight (8) azimuthing thrusters, blanking all sea chests as well as installing permanent covers over all thruster wells for long term decommissioning. Since the work was done offshore, no crane barge was used and SGS developed a buoyancy controlled lifting solution to transfer the load to the vessel’s large crane. In addition to all of the IN-WATER work, SGS performed the INBOARD work as well as provided SGS owned and operated Strand Jack systems for lowering the Azimuthing thrusters.
From initial planning to final reporting, Subsea Global Solutions executes all portions of the work in between. The client feedback highlights the team’s professionalism, attention to detail and eye on safety. “Captain __________ and myself thought you should know that Jason Campbell and his entire crew have done an outstanding job completing the removal of the thrusters on the vessel. This crew is very safety orientated and are thorough in the duties. Great job!!!”
Please feel free to enjoy SGS’s team in action. See the attached video compilation of the job from start to finish!
Delivering unrivaled service IN AND OUT of the water. Subsea Global Solutions is your global resources for underwater solutions.
Holes in the Hull- Temporary Shell plate Repairs- Jan 2017
While operating in the Caribbean a vessel became aware that they were getting water ingress into one of the void tanks under the main propeller shaft. Subsea Global Solutions was contacted and after a discussion with the class surveyor, vessel management and Subsea Global Solutions engineering staff, it was decided to install a welded doubler plate to cover the breach in the hull during one of the vessels regular port calls. Subsea Global Solutions mobilized a crew to perform Ultrasonic thickness readings to gauge the integrity of the hull plating. Measurements were taken and the plate was fabricated.
Work began on the damaged area of the shell plate and a two-part marine epoxy was applied to seal the hole. The surrounding area was cleaned and prepped so the doubler plate could be installed. The doubler plate was fully welded using a multi-pass fillet weld. The process used by Subsea Global Solutions’ welder / divers is a Class society approved, AWS Class “A” weld. By utilizing this multi-bead process our welder / divers are able to achieve weld qualities with metallurgical properties consistently found in high class top side welds. Upon completion of the welding, all the welds and the heat affected parent metal was properly coated with an underwater epoxy.
The vessel sailed into the sunset safe and secure. Delivering unrivaled in-water service at a moments notice is what Subsea Global Solutions is all about. We are the GLOBAL RESOURCE to turn to for your in-service underwater maintenance and repairs. We remain available to support your needs anywhere and at any time.
We got a leak!- Shaft Seal Emergency Repair- Dec 2016
Following a scheduled dry docking event a vessel departed from the shipyard only to discover that there was a leaking shaft seal.
With the vessel going directly into service an in-service repair solution was required in order to keep the vessel afloat. The client and the Service Provider that initially performed the work in dry dock contacted Subsea Global Solutions to evaluate in-service repair options. After an inspection was performed in the initial port of entry it was determined that the seal assembly would require an in-service inspection and repair. Preparations were made to gain access to the seal assembly. The rope guard was gouged away with Subsea Global Solutions’ specialized Hydro-gouging system. This allowed the welder / divers to gouge away the weld and leave the base material intact thus allowing the rope guard to be easily installed after the work was completed.
While the vessel transited to its next port of call, Subsea Global Solutions mobilized their dive support vessel “She Devil” to meet the vessel for repair in the lower Caribbean. Upon the arrival of the damaged vessel, the team immediately began the installation of Subsea Global Solutions’ TransHab- Flexible Hyperbaric Cofferdam to create a dry environment around the seal assembly. Once installed certified seal / Diver-Technicians entered the Cofferdam and quickly determined the problem with the seal assembly. The seal rings were renewed through a certified bonding process and the system was reassembled. After two (2) working shifts, no leaks were reported and the Transhab Flexible Cofferdam was removed from the vessel so that it could continue on its voyage.
The Delivery of Unrivaled Service is what makes Subsea Global Solutions the leading underwater service provider. We remain available at any time to support your inspection, maintenance needs or emergency repair needs globally. One call and that’s all!

SGS US East and SGS Caribbean- Propeller Repairs- Aug 2016
Controllable Pitch Propeller Blade Seal Replacement
While operating in the pristine waters of the Caribbean, a commercial vessel began to lose oil from it’s controllable pitch propeller system (CPP). As the vessel neared the Panama Canal the vessel’s management contacted Subsea Global Solutions (SGS) to investigate and potentially repair the problem while the vessel laid fully loaded in an anchorage awaiting the canal passage.
Upon notification of this emergency, diver / technicians were dispatched to Panama to work together with SGS’s local resources in the area. Upon arrival, gear was loaded and prepared onboard a suitable workboat for working in the outer anchorage. Upon arrival to the vessel a survey of the CPP system, shaft seal and aft section of the vessel was conducted. It was determined that one of the CPP propeller blades was leaking due to a damaged seal.
As the client had spare parts onboard AND SGS arrived to the vessel with all necessary gear to perform an in-water exchange of the propeller blade seal, a repair immediately begun. Internal preparations were made on the vessel to avoid any further loss of oil AND to prevent seawater ingress into the propeller hub. The propeller blade was lowered efficiently using techniques and specialized tooling developed by SGS for this specialized type of repair. The blade seal was efficiently replaced, blade reinstalled and system tested.
With the leak repaired, the vessel was returned to service WITHOUT being taken off-hire. The efficient solution provided by Subsea Global Solutions while the vessel waited in the anchorage for canal passage was invaluable to the client.
Keeping ships in service and assuring environmentally friendly solutions, Subsea Global Solutions is your trusted partner to deliver unrivaled service.

SGS INNOVATION- Making the Impossible- POSSIBLE!
Subsea Global Solutions was the resource hired to develop an innovative solution for the extraction of retractable azimuthing thrusters in a VERY shall environment. This project required several phases using a purpose designed and built hydraulic jacking system to demount and exchange these thrusters. The Azimuthing thrusters were the propulsion system on a specialty vessel which were not originally designed for underwater demounting. Due to the strategic nature of this vessel and its home port location a unique solution was required.
Teams from our SGS East and West Coast offices participated in this ground breaking azimuthing thruster exchange with the Original Equipment Manufacturer. Since this thruster was not designed for underwater demounting and the location was sensitive and shallow, the innovative tension leg track system was employed in this case to demount the lower gear boxes for overhaul and repair.
Subsea Global Solutions is your resource for unrivaled service. Driven by our core values, we make the impossible POSSIBLE each and every day.
